Autistic Leaders

A slightly related mental model

  1. Truly exceptional companies are extensions of the mind of the founder, which is very internally consistent (otherwise the company wouldn’t be exceptional).

  2. Building anything requires convincing others to give power/resources. Consensus social structure around assessing leaders/giving them power and resources is probably going to be incompatible with the founder (since it is effectively arbitrary), who must then fight through the initial pushback until the system ‘inverts’ around him (which is easier than people think, since it was arbitrary/inconsistent/minorly corrupt in the first place and so just settles in some attractor state that is only superficially coherent).

challenge for autistic leaders is to orient their mind to the correct level of abstraction of the problem and not get distracted by true-but-useless internally consistent stuff.
